Tomorrow I’ll be catching an early flight to New York to attend my first ever conference of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators. To say that I’m excited would be an understatement.
For the past months I have been preparing for the conference, in some fashion or another. I finished the sketches and cover to the kid’s book I’m illustrating so that I’d have my picture book dummy ready to show to anyone even remotely interested. I painted and submitted to SCBWI a scene from the same book in the hopes that it gets reviewed by the illustrators panel. And I completed the painting above, an assignment for the illustrators intensive workshop I signed up for.
So, with illustration in hand, I’ll make my way east to meet other children’s book writers and illustrators and try to take in everything I can from the experience. Wish me luck.
